
| Solon Community Television is really two cable channels: Solon Education Television on channel 50 and Solon Government Television on channel 51. While each channel serves a different institution, they share the goal of providing Solon residents with local information. Solon Community Television began in April, 1990 with the opening of the television studio at the high school. The first production was the Spring High School Choral Concert which was televised on Cablevisions regional access channel 24. In August, 1991, Solon Community Television began airing a btulletin board and programs from the Solon High School on channel 48. Since then, it has moved to channel 49, then to channel 50. Meanwhile, in August, 1993, channel 51began cablhcasting government information from city hall. At first, it had only a bulletin board, but with the move to the new city Hall in 1995, city council meetings and planning commission meetings plus many other city related-programs have been broadcast. Solon has been one of the few communities in the greater Cleveland area to activate and use the access channels that became part of every franchise agreement of the late 1970s and early 1980s.. |
| Solon City Council provides funding from the cable franchise fees for both the education and governmentaccess channels. Solon City Schools provides the building space and staff for the education channel while the government channel is located in the new city hall. |
