Medical Informatics

I'll pull in some quotes and more formal definitions soon, but for now, I'll just define "Medical Informatics" as the application of Information Systems, Information Technology, and Computer Science to Medicine.

For people like me, with technology backgrounds, it often seems that it might just as well be called "Computer Applications in Medicine", but "Medical Informatics" is becoming a medical specialty, so from the physician's point of view, the name probably makes sense. Especially since our professional society is The American Medical Informatics Association.
