At the 1947 Western Reserve kennel Club show in Cleveland, three Irish Setter fanciers (Wolfram Stumpf, Dr. Jay Calhoun and Hugh Rumbaugh) got together and decided to try to form an Irish Setter Club of Ohio. Each of these three men contacted other fanciers and just two weeks later, on St. Patrick's Day, 1947, a meeting was held at the Carter Hotel in Cleveland.

Charter members of this new club were: Robert Anderson, Florence Anderson, Jay Calhoun M.D., James Moore, Lillian Robeson, Hugh Rumbaugh, Eleanor Speaker, Burton Speaker, and mary Louise Svetlik. Mary Louise is still with us; the others have all passed on.

Our specialty show this coming July will be our 54th Summer Specialty. Our first sanctioned Field Trial was held in the spring of 1955. We held our first licensed field trial on September 27, 1959. We began holding a second spring trial around 1971-1972. We have also hosted two ISCA (Irish Setter Club of America) NATIONAL Specialties. Our first was in 1978 at the Holiday Inn in Elyria, Ohio (ISCA 6th), and in 1994 we hosted the ISCA's 22nd National at the Parke Hotel in Canton, Ohio.
