Linda Eisenstein

THEATRE MUSIC

From Reviews:

TWELFTH NIGHT (1984)

"Imagine Ralph Kramden, Ed Norton, James Brown, Frankie Avalon, the Shangri-La's, Little Anthony and the Imperials and Lucy Ricardo getting together to do Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and you have a pretty good picture of the show Cleveland Public Theatre is doing this month at the Metroparks Zoo...Linda Eisenstein's wonderful rock/gospel/do-wop music does as much as Stegmiller's design to persuade that Twelfth Night belongs in the '50s. "Come Away, Death," in the hands of Eisenstein and an amazing actor-singer who goes by the name of LeRoy, becomes a James Brown extravaganza of spurious faints and soulful outbursts. "When That I Was and a Little Tiny Boy" turns into a Motown tune, with a do-wop chorus backing up LeRoy and a trio executing Pips-style choreography off to the side." - The Plain Dealer

*Special citation, Cleveland Critics Circle Award, original score*

THE DYBBUK (1994)

"Also to the production's credit is Linda Eisenstein's music. Her 'Wedding Song' for Leye, beautifully sung by (Holly) Holsinger, eloquently captures both the character and the culture." - Gay People's Chronicle

"Every second is professional and explosively choreographed with dream-like intensity...Linda Eisenstein's original music splendidly encapsulates the mysteries and joys of Hasidism." - Scene

THE BALCONY (1991)

"Linda Eisenstein, Cleveland Public Theatre's composer-in-residence, is the accordion player, and her original score adds an arresting musical counterpoint to the drama on stage." - Cleveland Jewish N ews
