Educating Young Men
St. Benedict Vincent de Paul Society is a non profit organization with an emphasis on serving people who are oppressed by economics, lack of opportunities or social barriers. The organization strives to overcome barriers and continues to work on programs that will foster the holistic approach to challenges that exist for at-risk youth.
Young men who live in the city of Cleveland may apply for an Educational Voucher which will help pay the tuition at a non public high school. The amount of this voucher is around twenty seven hundred dollars. This amount does not pay for the full tuition but only helps to pay a portion of the tuition. Tuition costs around ten thousand dollars per year. You also have to keep in mind additional costs like clothes, shoes, additional funds for activities like sports, educational trips. This project will serve at-risk young men from fourteen through eighteen years of age who reside in the inner city. The project will offer the youth an opportunity to attend a College Preparatory school. They must be willing to attend Benedictine High School. The youth will come from families who are at-risk. They must meet all entrance requirements set forth by the school before being admitted into our program. They must follow all codes of conduct requirements by the school and focus on their educational opportunities. The young men will help to enrich the school community by their rich culture and diversity. They will grow together helping each other in their strong points and their areas of challenges. The young men will have the opportunity for after school activities whether they choose sports or the different clubs that they might be interested in joining. This project will attempt to provide the students with a stable environment and build a bond between them that will last a life time. By choosing to be a participant in this initiative students will be presented with an opportunity to receive assistance in overcoming some of the challenges they encounter. In addition, the program will provide supportive services to the participants and their family members through outreach, home visits, guidance, positive role models and linkages to needed resources. The challenges at school, living and learning with each other as a group with the same goals in mind as they make the transformation from youth to adulthood will empower them for the future.
