Due to the state of Ohio's new laws and regulations, the Irish Setter Club of Ohio will now be referring their rescue issues and Irish Setters in need to OHIO IRISH SETTER RESCUE .    Our adoption process requires an application, veterinarian reference, and a home visit.    We also require that all of our dogs be house dogs since they don't do well being outside-only dogs.    Irish Setters are active dogs and need to run, and for most, a fenced yard is needed to provide a safe area for exercise. An invisible fence might also be considered for rescues who have been invisible fence-trained. Absent a fenced yard, a tie-out would be considered for our older dogs.

We are in the process of exploring the requirements for seeking 501(c)(3) status with the state of Ohio.    Alternatively, we may seek fiscal sponsorship from the Irish Setter Club of America.

LUCKY and SCOOBY

UPDATE 1/2/17: We're enormously pleased to let you know that Lucky and Scooby have been adopted by a wonderful couple in nearby Canton, Ohio. After a home visit on Friday they went to their new home on Saturday, where they joined a 10 year-old Shepherd mix named Rudy and 2 cats, Dexter and Zoe. Because their next door neighbor has a dog named Scooby (what are the odds?!?!) , they've decided to call the boys Sully and Finn ... we're calling them BOTH *Lucky* ! :)

Meet Lucky and Scooby. These boys were rescued from a burning house in the Dublin, Ohio area and taken by firemen to a veterinary clinic for treatment of mild smoke inhalation. They remained at the clinic's boarding kennel for over 2 months until it became clear that their owner wasn't willing or wasn't able to claim them. Both are healthy, neutered, and up-to-date on all of their shots. Lucky and Scooby are 4 and 3 and were raised together so they are VERY bonded to one another. For that reason we don't want to separate them so we're looking for someone who can give both of them the great home that they deserve, preferably one with a large fenced-in yard so they'll have plenty of room to run. The boys are now in the Cleveland area and are being evaluated by our rescue coordinator as to their overall health, temperaments and behavior towards one another and towards other dogs.

LUCKY

If you think you might be interested in adopting Lucky and Scooby, please email Ohio Irish Setter Rescue so that we can provide you with a copy of our adoption application. (If your browser doesn't support an email link, please copy/paste ohio.irishsetter.rescue@gmail.com into your email client.) Since we require at least one home visit, we can only consider homes in or very near Ohio unless you're already an "approved" home by another rescue group, don't have other dogs , and transportation could be arranged. Homes with one or more other dogs will require a "meet and greet" so we can see how they interact with Lucky and Scooby.

SCOOBY

KILLIAN

Update 1/22/16: We're delighted to announce that Killian has been adopted and went to his new home yesterday, where he'll join a 12 year-old female Irish and a 5 year-old rescued female Brittany, who'll no doubt enjoy running around in her fenced-in yard with someone closer to her own age. Killian's new family lost their two male Irish a while back and are looking forward to giving him a great home.

Killian's elderly owner passed away so a friend of hers contacted us so that he wouldn't be turned in to a shelter. He's 6 years old, neutered, with no health issues that we're aware of and he's up-to-date on all of his shots. He's a big boy (88 pounds) but NOT overweight. As you can imagine, given his size, he's a very strong and sturdy boy and quite active for a 6 year-old. He needs more leash training than he's already had so a fenced-in yard would be best so he can get all the exercise that he needs. He's housebroken and crate trained and he LOVES toys. Killian is being fostered in Maple Hts., Ohio and is getting along fine with his foster mom's two female Irish. We do require at least one home visit and a "meet and greet" if other dogs are involved so we're looking to place Killian in or very near Ohio.

If you think you might be interested in adopting Killian please email Ohio Irish Setter Rescue so that we can send you our adoption application. (If your browser doesn't support an email link, please copy/paste ohio.irishsetter.rescue@gmail.com into your email client.)

ROXIE

We're delighted to announce that Roxie has been adopted and now has a 1 acre (!!) fenced-in yard to run around in with 3 rescued Golden Retrievers and a 14 year-old boy that she fell in love with. We hope to have some pictures soon that we can share with you. I hope all of you who were interested in Roxie are as happy as we are that she's in a home where she'll have a great chance to be as happy as she can be. Thank you to everyone!

Roxie is a high spirited 2 year-old spayed Irish Setter, healthy and up-to-date on all of her shots and in need of a bit of obedience training. She gets along well with other dogs and we're told she's also fine with a cat. She loves to play frisbee and we think she needs a fenced-in yard so she can run off some of her energy. Roxie is very sweet and loving and doesn't like to be without human companionship so she would do best with a retired person or couple or someone who works from home. Roxie's original owner passed away and she's been in two different homes since then but she wasn't getting the attention she needs. We're convinced that she'll make a great companion for the right person or family!!

If you think you might be interested in adopting Roxie please email Ohio Irish Setter Rescue . (If your browser doesn't support an email link, please copy/paste ohio.irishsetter.rescue@gmail.com into your email client.)

SEGER

We're so happy to announce that Seger has been adopted by a wonderful family near Columbus, Ohio that includes two children and a 2 year-old Rhodesion Ridgeback named Annabelle. Thank you to everyone who inquired about about Seger and who were interested in adopting him. We hope you're as happy as we are that he's thoroughly enjoying his new life with his new family and his new best friend Annabelle.

Seger exploring his new yard with Annabelle and his new furniture. :-)

Seger is a 7 month-old neutered male, up-to-date on all of his shots and heartworm negative. This healthy boy is fully crate trained and housebroken and has a very sweet temperament but he's still a puppy and, like most young Irish Setters, will try to get away with whatever he can so no first-time dog owners please ... Seger needs and will respond to firm VERBAL corrections and a family who knows when to deliver those corrections. With the right person or family Seger will grow up to be a GREAT companion and family pet. He gets along fine with other dogs and was okay with the only cat he's ever met and older rather than young children would be ideal.

If you think you might be interested in adopting Seger please email Ohio Irish Setter Rescue . (If your browser doesn't support an email link, please copy/paste ohio.irishsetter.rescue@gmail.com into your email client.)

MURPHY

We're delighted to report that Murphy has been adopted!! Murphy's new home has a nice big fenced-in yard and his new family includes 4 kids and a Shih Tzu named Molly. Molly apparently isn't all that impressed with our boy but the kids and their parents love him. Happy trails Murph!!

Murphy is a high energy 2-1/2 year old neutered male. Due to unforeseen circumstances Murphy's family is unable to install a fence at their new home and he needs a LARGE fenced-in yard (5' high would be ideal) so he can run off some of his youthful exuberance. Murphy is housebroken, crate trained, heartworm negative and up-to-date on all of his shots. He gets along fine with kids and would do well with another female dog. He'd also be a great running companion because he does love to run!

If you think you might be interested in adopting Murphy please email Ohio Irish Setter Rescue . (If your browser doesn't support an email link, please copy/paste ohio.irishsetter.rescue@gmail.com into your email client.)

JAKE

We're thrilled to report that Jake has been adopted by a wonderful family who have had Irish Setters in their life for over 25 years and who'll give him all the love he could ever want. Thank you to everyone who inquired about our boy and who were interested in adopting him. We hope you're as happy as we are that he's going to a great home with lots of camping trips in his future.

Jake exploring his new yard. :-)

Jake's family moved to a place that doesn't allow pets so he entered our program on August 3rd. He's 6 years old with no health issues that we're aware of and he's up-to-date on all of his shots. He's fine with kids, trained on an invisible fence and we're told he's a great running buddy. Jake is being fostered in Maple Hts., Ohio and has recovered well from surgery to neuter him. Jake has a sweet temperament and gets along great with his foster mom's two female Irish.

If you think you might be interested in adopting Jake please email Ohio Irish Setter Rescue . (If your browser doesn't support an email link, please copy/paste ohio.irishsetter.rescue@gmail.com into your email client.)

ACE

Great news!! Our boy Ace has been adopted by a wonderful retired couple in Eastlake, Ohio. Between them, their beagle mix and their grandchildren, we know Ace will be thoroughly enjoying his new life.

Ace was found running loose in Waverly, Ohio and taken in out of the frigid cold by an elderly couple who couldn't keep him. We don't know his name (so you can call him anything you want :-) or his age but we think he's 5-7 years old. Ace has passed all of his health clearances and has been neutered. He's very sweet, gentle and submissive and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Ace loves people and would be the perfect companion for an older person or couple who can give him all the attention he craves. He's a real sweetheart.

We're happy to report that our female rescue, Macy, is now in her permanent home. At the moment we have no other rescues in our program. Please check back often as this may change at a moment's notice. Thank you for your interest in Irish Setter rescue.
